The Hypatia Trust (a collaborative community hub advancing women's equality and based in Penzance, Cornwall) invited women with a connection to Cornwall to send in poetry films for their 2023 Women In Word Festival.
I decided to have a go using a poem of mine that had previously been published in Tears in the Fence and video footage and photos that I already had. Learning how to use iMovie and make my first poetry film was challenging but also deeply absorbing and enjoyable. Images added another dimension to the words.
Sarah Tremlett, a prize-winning poetry film maker and author of The Poetics of Poetry Film (Intellect Books, The University of Chicago Press) was on the selection panel and I was elated when my film was one of chosen. The poetry film evening was packed and it was great to meet Sarah and the other writers and creatives who were there.
